Bentley Technical Support has discovered an issue with Windows XP Service Pack 2 and SELECTserver. For security reasons, XP Service Pack 2 closes down a number of TCP/IP ports including ports 3998 and 3999, the two ports that SELECTserver needs to serve out licenses and the Administrative Interface page. This is an issue when Service Pack 2 is installed on the machine running SELECTserver. SELECTserver will continue to work on that one machine if MicroStation is also loaded locally, but any other machine will not be able to get a license or see the Administrative Interface page. Users trying to get a license will get a "no response from license server" message.

To fix this, ports 3998 and 3999 need to be reopened. Bentley Technical Support has created a registry file that will take care of this problem.

Download the file at the link below (right-click > Save Target As) then change the file extension to ".reg".

ftp://ftp.bentley.com/pub/tools/fixes/selectserver/XPSP2fix.txt

Once the file is saved on the machine running SELECTserver, double click it and choose "Yes" to confirm the changes to your registry.

All machines should then be able to obtain a license from SELECTserver.
