As stated in the SELECT agreement, usage logs are required to be sent to Bentley at a minimum of a 30 day interval. SELECT Server by default, will do this automatically. However, some organizations may have limited or no connectivity to the internet. For situations such as this, SELECT Server provides an efficient manual process to send log files.
First, the SELECT Server administrator will need to verify the server is set to manually transmit usage logs. This option was presented in the installer and can be reset by navigating to the 'Server Settings' option under the 'Administration' heading in the SELECT Server administrator:
After following the Server Settings link, scroll down to the 'Usage Log Transmittal' section:
Verify the 'Transmit application usage logs manually' option is checked. If not, check the box and click Apply. The server will begin to save the usage logs on the server for the administrator to manually send. This must be done at least every 30 days. In order to prepare logs for transmittal, follow the 'Transmit Usage Logs' link located in the 'Administration' section of the SELECT Server administration page.
This process will be completed in four easy steps:
Step 1: To prepare the logs, simply click on the 'Create File' button.
Step 2: After the file is created in step 1, it will appear in the dialog pictured below. Click the 'Download' button to save the file.
When the 'File Download' dialog appears, click 'Save' and navigate to a location that is easily accessible. If you are on a network where a computer with internet access exists, consider saving it there for the next step. Or simply save it to a media that is easily transferable to another machine with internet access.
Step 3: Transmit usage logs. This may be done over the internet or via email. Once complete, a response file will be generated for import back into SELECT Server (Step 4). The following steps are for uploading the logs over the internet, and require a machine that has access to the internet. If such a machine does not exist, please email the log file to: sslogs@bentley.com A response file will be returned within 48 hours.
Please go to: http://selectserver.bentley.com/bss/admin/default.aspx?Control=ManualLogPosting Populate the SELECT Server Serial Number and SELECT Server Activation Key in their respective boxes if they are not pre-populated. The server's credentials are located in the 'Server Settings' dialog on your SELECT Server:
Click the 'Browse' button and navigate to the location of the log files. Then click 'Submit'
A response file will be created and made available for download as indicated below:
Step 4: Process the Acknowledgement File. Lastly, your SELECT Server requires the response file to ensure your license and product data are up to date. Click the 'Browse' button and navigate to the location of the response file received from Bentley. The 'Process File' button will become active. Click the 'Process File' button to complete the process.
