This Technical Bulletin describes an interim solution for circumventing a known but unresolved issue with MicroStation Schematics and MicroStation/J.
If you have trouble or receive error messages regarding licensing for MicroStation Schematics v02.01.02.06 running on MicroStation/J v07.01.00.62, it is due to the startup directory name within the shortcut icon. This issue will cause the product to operate in a demonstration mode even though the product is properly licensed. The existing startup directory should be replaced by the full path where the file ustation.exe is located (for example, C:\Bentley\Program\MicroStation). Please follow the instructions below to resolve this issue.
- Open the MicroStation Schematics group in Windows Explorer. You will see six icons with the Bentley "B" in front of them. This procedure applies to all six.
- Select the first icon by right-clicking on it and then selecting "Properties".
- Select the "Shortcut" tab.
- In the "Start in:" field you will see something similar to
<your drive>:\Bentley\Program\MICROS~1
- Change this to read
<your drive>:\Bentley\Program\MicroStation
This should effectively resolve the demonstration mode license issue in these versions of MicroStation Schematics and MicroStation/J. Remember to do this for all six icons.
Note: If the above does not allow you to open MicroStation Schematics as a fully licensed product (not in demo mode), make sure that your P&ID license information has been copied and pasted into your msj.lic file. The current P&ID modules for MicroStation Schematics do not need (or look for) separate P&ID license files, but instead look for all of the applicable information within the msj.lic (EC version) file.
