Bentley Technical Bulletin
This document is provided to address known compatibility issues that may be encountered after having installed products providing different versions of the Microsoft VBA runtime libraries on the same computer. The steps described below can be taken to properly correct this situation.

Description
When installing products that provide different versions of the Microsoft VBA runtime libraries on the same machine, e.g. Microsoft Office 2003 and MicroStation V8, the user may (depending upon the order in which the products are installed) receive a request to install a product feature or repair the product with more current and required versions of the VBA runtime libraries for a given product.

This may present an issue for a system or CAD administrator in cases where:

  • The user does not have sufficient administrative rights to perform product or application updates.
  • The product was installed on the computer without a local installation cache option.
  • Access to the installation media is not available from the original location (fixed disk, or network share).

Both Summit Software Company (http://www.summsoft.com), the exclusive distributor of the Microsoft VBA runtime installers, and Microsoft Corporation are aware of this issue and have provided recommendations or a patch regarding this issue. Refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article #828956 or Summit software SR #18490.

Resolution
Summit has provided a Microsoft developer support patch (msregmso.exe) to Bentley specifically to address this issue and provide an administrative work-around. It allows you to pre-emptively patch an environment, ensuring smoother rollouts of application software into production environments.

If your environment has the need to administer the Microsoft VBA runtime patch (msregmo.exe) you can do so by executing the following command line in silent mode, either from an administrative script or interactively:

e.g. C:\Program Files\Bentley\Program\Install\VBA6\msregmso.exe -s

MicroStation V8 and derivative products starting with versions 08.01.03.xx and 08.05.01.xx will supply the msregmso.exe utility in an install directory similar to the one referenced above. For versions prior to these you may contact support@bentley.com to request the Microsoft Office VBA Patch Utility.
