Subject: Using the Euro symbol €
Product: MicroStation/J/SE
Operating System: All
Document Number: 8231

The MicroStation fonts delivered with MicroStation SE, MicroStation/J and MicroStation V8 do not include the Euro symbol (€). It is however possible to add the symbol to your existing MicroStation fonts.
Note: MicroStation V8 supports native TrueType fonts. The TrueType fonts Microsoft ships with its products (Microsoft Office 97 with the latest service pack, Office 2000 and Windows 2000 for example) include the Euro symbol, when using these fonts in MicroStation V8 adding the Euro symbol is not necessary.

We have made two example font resource files containing fonts with the Euro symbol (€) available for download in the DataExchange section of SELECTservices Online. These font resource files are:

  • Intl_engEuro.rsc, containing font 165
  • Euro.rsc containing font 166 (note: this font contains only a filled Euro character)

Copy these files to <drive> :\Bentley\Workspace\standards\symb\ for MicroStation/J, or to <drive> :\win32app\ustation\wsmod\<workspace name>\symb\ for MicroStation SE.

The Euro symbol can be entered by typing [ALT]0128 into the MicroStation text editor. After loading one of these fonts, type [ALT]0128 in the MicroStation text editor to place a Euro symbol in your MicroStation text.

Adding the € symbol to an existing font

Use the following steps to add the Euro symbol € to an existing MicroStation font:

  1. Export your font to a MicroStation cell library using the Font Exporter (available for download as an Enhancement in the Download section of SELECTservices Online. Look for the file fontexpt.ma posted May 3 1996).

  2. Create a Euro symbol in MicroStation and add it to this cell library with the name DEC128. Or, download one of a number of cell libraries we have made available on the DataExchange section of SELECTservices Online (http://selectservices.bentley.com/index.htm) which contain Euro symbol cells. Download the euroFill.cel, euro.cel or intl_engEuro.cel and place it in your <drive> :\Bentley\Workspace\standards\cell\ directory.

  3. Import this cell library into a new or existing font resource file using the font installer, activated from MicroStation's pull-down menu by going to Utilities > Install Fonts.

Note: The MicroStation V8 font importer does not accept TrueType, AutoCAD SHX or PostScript Type 1 fonts, as these fonts can be used natively in MicroStation V8. Font resource files created in earlier versions of MicroStation can be used in MicroStation V8 however.
