Question 1: What new features are available in MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1?
Answer: The following new features are in MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1:
Network Analysis
MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 will provide basic network modeling and analysis functionality. This includes:
- Shortest-path
- Radial search
- Trace-forward
- Trace-back
MicroStation GeoGraphics models linear elements, referred to as edges, as having two distinct channels of flow, a forward and reverse direction. A different cost value may be assigned to each directional channel. Direction is determined by the element's order of vertices. A negative cost value will block a directional channel of flow. One-way streets, for instance, have either their forward or reverse channel closed. Cost is the amount of resistance encountered from traversing an edge from one end to the other. At the intersection of edges are nodes. Nodes also have costs. In order to model a closed valve, the node is assigned a negative value. The cost value on edges is defaulted to the calculated length of the linear element. A more customized approach is to use SQL statements. The Visual Query Builder is integrated so SQL queries can be easily generated
MicroStation GeoDefiner
MicroStation GeoDefiner is a subset of MicroStation GeoCoordinator delivered with MicroStation GeoGraphics. The main purpose of MicroStation GeoDefiner is to assign a coordinate system to a map. Once a map contains a coordinate system, a readout of latitude/longitude (or any reference coordinate system) may be obtained. With MicroStation GeoDefiner you can:
- Add a coordinate system definition to an existing file containing data (graphic elements.)
- Place control point locations in an empty design file using a pair of coordinate systems.
- Use the Select Reference command to read the coordinate system definition of the reference file into the Reference Coordinate System.
- Place labels for Master or reference
MicroStation GeoDefiner has been designed for easy upgrade to MicroStation GeoCoordinator. Keep in mind that element and file transform functions are performed by MicroStation GeoCoordinator.
ProjectWise Integration
MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 has been integrated with ProjectWise to provide document management functionality for your MicroStation GeoGraphics projects.
Prerequisites for ProjectWise Integration:
- In order to use the MicroStation GeoGraphics/ProjectWise integration you must have ProjectWise v2.X and MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 running on MicroStation/J v7.1.
- You must have a MicroStation GeoGraphics project and a ProjectWise vault that will contain the maps of the MicroStation GeoGraphics project. It must contain at least index.dgn, seed2d.dgn, and vicinity.dgn. This vault will serve as the central repository for the maps of a MicroStation GeoGraphics project.
Revised Documentation
FRAMES and NO FRAMES option, links to MicroStation DGN package, JDK and Swing API documentation have been added to MicroStation GeoGraphics-specific JMDL documentation. Available at .../Bentley/Program/GeoGraphics/jmdl/docs/geo/dgn/index.html

Question 3: Will MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 run on MicroStation/J v7.0?
Answer: No. MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 runs exclusively on MicroStation/J v7.1. MicroStation/J version 7.01.00.62 or newer must be installed before MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 is installed.
Question 4: I'm having trouble starting MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 from a desktop icon I created from a previous version of MicroStation GeoGraphics. Why is this?
Answer: MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 icon properties have changed from the 7.0 version. The command to start MicroStation GeoGraphics v7.1 (shortcut target line) has changed. If an icon other than the one created by the MicroStation GeoGraphics/J 7.1 installer is used to start the application (such as a 5.7 or 7.0 version icon), then the following must be appended to the icon's shortcut target line:
-wc<GeoGraphics installation directory>\config\gglocal.cfg
An example of the full icon's shortcut target line installed on the D:\ drive would look like this:
C:\Bentley\Program\MicroStation\ustation.exe -wugeograph -wcC:\Bentley\Program\GeoGraphics\config\gglocal.cfg

Question 10: I'm receiving the message "gtDB_countTable: Not Connected to database" when attempting to open up a project which I have successfully connected to previously. How can I resolve this?
Answer: This error is caused by the database type 66 undisplayed element when it is read by MicroStation. When a new design file is opened, the database type 66 element is read (if it exists) from the design file. If the ODBC datasource name stored in the type 66 element does not match a valid entry in your ODBC datasource list (in the ODBC Administrator from the Control Panel) you will receive the error. This usually means that there is a type 66 element in your project seed file defining the expected datasource name.
Steps you can take to remedy this situation:
- Remove the type 66 element by opening the seed file and connecting to the database, keying in "DB= ", then choose File > Save Settings. This will remove the type 66 element and allow you to use different datasource names.
- Another solution is to have a single ODBC datasource name for everyone who logs into your project; this is recommended.
