Below is a list of the new GEOPAK 2004 startup configuration variables and their usage.

These variables apply to the activation of GEOPAK products and the use of SELECTserver based licensing. They do not apply to SELECT node locked license files.

These variables can be placed in a .CFG file within the APPL directory of MicroStation, or within any other user or project configuration file depending on your individual configuration. If the variable is not present, operation will continue as it always has with the activation of all installed and licensed products. The Genesis for the creation of these variables was to allow individuals to install all GEOPAK products in a single directory and have control over what licenses are utilized. An example of there usefulness is: if the variables do not exist a Suite user will consume a Suite license and a Civil Extension license if they are both installed to the same directory, this would limit a second user from accessing the capability within the Civil Extension.

With the addition of these variables there are many benefits to you. These are listed below:

  1. You can have a standard install of the entire set of products regardless of the usage for every PC, which facilitates cloning.
  2. Any user will have access to as much or as little of the products as they need without the need of custom installs and batch files or multiple workspaces.
  3. Tools that are not used can be turned off to stream line the applications pull down.
  4. Different departments can have default start ups to utilize only the licenses they need, i.e., Survey and Civil Extension can be started by the survey department even though they have Suite and Civil Extension loaded. This does not mean that they can break up a Suite license. It means they can control the license that will be utilized given that they have multiple license types on their server.

The variables are as follows:

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SUITE = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SITE = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SURVEY = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_BRIDGE = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_REBAR = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_CIVILEXT = 1
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG = 1

Will add an item below "Activate GEOPAK" called "Startup Configuration" when selected it will give you this dialog with all installed products in black and products not installed will show grayed out. You can then check the desired products you want to use. Note that "Suite" in the dialog refers to the "ROAD" pull down. The program will select the minimum license use depending on what has been checked off.

Example:

Figure 1 indicates that a Suite license will be used and you will see all Suite tools in the Applications pull down.
Figure 2 indicates that a Suite license will be used and you will see only Survey and Bridge tools in the Applications pull down.
Figure 3 indicates that a Site license will be used and you will see all Site tools in the Applications pull down.

To allow this functionality this variable should exist and be set to "1" no other setting is applicable. The settings will be remembered for subsequent MicroStation sessions.

The remaining variables are for automatic activation of specific products and can be set to "1" for ON and "0" for OFF. If set to "1" all applicable application pull downs will be available. If set to "0" all applicable application pull downs will not be available.

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SITE
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SURVEY
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_BRIDGE
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_REBAR
GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_CIVILEXT
