General

Question 1:  I received an E-mail invitation to a Project/Business, yet the Project/Business does not show up in my personal space. Or if I use the link in the E-mail to access the project, Viecon.com says I must register again?

Answer: This is because the E-mail address the person used to invite you to the project is different than the E-mail address you used when you initially registered your Viecon.com account. To receive proper notification and have access to the project, have the person re-invite you to their project using your registered E-mail address.

Question 2:  I forgot my password, how do I log in?

Answer: Go to Forgotten Information and follow the steps there or follow the directions below:

  • Click on Forgotten Password on the Viecon.com Login page.
  • In the Forgotten Login Name/Password Wizard, key in your E-mail address and select the Password radio button.
  • You will then see your Jog question. Answer this question so that it matches the string keyed in when you registered on the site. The Jog question serves as an additional identifier for Viecon.com to verify that you are indeed the person who is trying to access your account.
  • Wait for the E-mail that was sent to the address you used when you registered with Viecon. Use the verification code in this E-mail in the following steps.
  • Click on the link in the E-mail. (Alternatively, you could paste the response from the E-mail in the last window).
  • This brings up a page for you to enter your E-mail address, the Verification Code, and allows you to reset the password.

Question 3:  I forgot my login name, how do I log in?

Answer: To get your forgotten login, Click on Forgotten Password on the Viecon.com Login page.

In the Forgotten Login Name/Password Wizard, key in your E-mail address and select the Login radio button.

You will then see a combo box requesting your First Name, Last Name, and your jog question response. (This information was obtained in the initial registration process). Key in your data in the appropriate fields.

When you have successfully filled in the fields, an E-mail is sent to your E-mail address with your login ID. Use this login ID and your password to access the Viecon.com site.

Question 4:  What page should I bookmark?

Answer: You should bookmark the page you would like to return to by clicking the current page which should read as .../Navigation.Frameset.jsp. By creating this bookmark, you can surf to other sites and return to exact page you left, without logging in again. If you have closed the browser, you must re-login and travel the path to this location.

Question 5:  When I try to do certain things (invite a project member, delete a document, delete a meeting, etc.) I get an "Access Denied - You are not allowed to perform the requested action on that object. Access denied to <various types>" message.

Answer: This is due to the permissions the Project Administrator set up for this project. You will need to contact the Project Administrator to have them give you permissions to the particular tasks you require.

Question 6:  When I try to access a WebEx meeting through Viecon.com I get a notice about the certificate being incorrect. Should I be concerned?

Answer: No, as long as the certificate being installed is for secure.webex.com (see image below). You are being notified that the certificate does not match because WebEx Inc. issues the certificate for their secure meetings for the site secure.webex.com, and Viecon.com meetings are hosted at viecon.webex.com. There is no problem and the certificate is OK.

Documents

Question 11:  How does Viecon.com know which application to use when I select the View Document tool?

Answer: Viecon.com uses mime types to associate your document with an application. This mime-type is sent to your Web browser when you select the View Document tool. Your browser has a table that associates a given mime-type to an application to use for that mime-type.

Back to Index

Question 12:  What is a mime type?

Answer: MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. Mime types are a standard for specifying the format of files transferred over the Internet. These Mime-types are associated to file extensions on the server as well as the client and that type is communicated to the browser when needed. The browser is then aware of which application is to be used to view the particular file. For example, a file with an extension of ".dgn" is configured on the Viecon.com server as a mime-type "application/ustation". When a Viecon.com user requests such a file (View Document tool) the server sends the mime type along with the file when it downloads to the client machine. The browser then looks for that mime-type within its configurations to determine the application on the client to use for viewing the document. So within the example, the client workstation would associate the mime type application/ustation with the application ustation.exe.

Question 13:  How do I configure my browser's mime-types to use the correct application?

Answer: Use the following instructions for your browser:

Netscape Navigator

  1. Choose Edit > Preferences. Under Category, select Navigator > Applications.

    Edit|Preferences

  2. Highlight the Application and select Edit.

    Edit Type

  3. Click the Browse button under the Handled by: Application field and select the desired executable from your local machine.
Microsoft Internet Explorer

  1. Select View Options/Folder Options and select the File Types Tab.

    View|Options|File

  2. Highlight the application in question and select Edit.

    Edit Mime

  3. Highlight the open Action and select Edit.

    Edit Open|Action

  4. Use the Browse button to select the Application to be used to view the document.
NOTE: When downloading a file of a mime-type that is not recognized by the client, your machine will use the extension association to locate an application to use for viewing. If none is found you should be prompted to pick an application to use for viewing.

Question 14:  When I select the hypertext link for a document it usually gives me an option to view it or download it. But for certain file types is automatically opens the file for viewing without giving me the option to download it.

Answer: This is because an option has been turned off for those particular file types. When you download a file from the Internet, you are usually prompted to Download or View the document. In the dialog that pops up giving you that choice, there is a checkbox which allows you set the preference for your browser to not offer you that choice again. If you uncheck the "Always Ask" preference then your browser will never give you the choice again, it will always download it or always view it depending on your current choice. If you would like the choice back, then you must change you browser’s configuration. To do this follow the steps below:

Netscape

  • Choose Edit > Preferences. Under Category select Navigator > Applications.
  • Highlight the Application and select Edit.
  • Check the "Always Ask before opening downloaded files of this type"

Internet Explorer:

  • Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  • Select View Options/Folder Options and select the File Types Tab.
  • Highlight the application in question and select Edit.
  • Check on the "Confirm Open After Download option"

Question 15:  How do I associate a document with a meeting?

Answer: Follow these steps:

  • From any page which lists meetings, select the Hypertext Link for the meeting to bring up the Meeting Summary Page.
  • On the Meeting Summary page, select the Modify Icon on the right side of the Links Channel bar. This will bring up the Add Links page.
  • Select the Add New Link button to begin the process of associating a document to the meeting.
  • Select Document in the Link Type.

To locate the document you wish to find

There are three methods of locating the document to link with the meeting:

Simple Search: Enter a word or two from the document name or description in the search box then hit the Find Document button. The resulting list will show all the documents matching your simple search criteria. If you leave the search field blank, you will see all documents.

Advanced Search: Enter search criteria into the desired fields and hit the Find Document button. The resulting list shows all the documents matching your search criteria.

Browse: When you select Browse you will be able to Navigate through the documents in the project to locate the desired document.

Once the document is found:

When you have located your document using one of the three methods above, toggle the radio button for that document and hit the Add Link button. This links the document to the meeting.

As you add additional document links to a meeting, you will see the list of documents that are currently linked to the meeting. Any time if you want to unlink a document - toggle the radio button for that document and select the Unlink button.

When you are done linking documents, select the Finish or Done Adding buttons. You will be returned to the Meeting Summary Page. Here you should see the documents you have linked listed under the Links channel.

Question 16:  When I attempt to view a document I get a blank window with an image placeholder with the message "Error locating Object Handler...". How do I see this image?

Answer: This error comes from a plugin previously installed on your local machine that was configured to handle the particular file type you were trying to view. To resolve this issue go to this URL for the steps to follow for a resolution: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q180/5/53.ASP

Viecon.plot

Question 17:  Does the user receiving my Viecon.plot through E-mail need Viecon.plot on their computer to view the plot?

Answer: No, they do not need Viecon.plot to open the plotfile you created. The application is only used to create the plotfiles, not view them. People who get the E-mail view the plotfile through their Web browser.

Back to Index

Question 18:  Does Viecon.plot link the plotfile to my Business or Project in Viecon.com?

Answer: Not at this time. The only connection they have is that the plotfile resides on the Viecon.com server and the viewers need to be registered Viecon.com users to access it. There is no link inside a Business or Project to a plot. The registered users can only access the plotfile using the URL link sent in the E-mail.

One time-limited workaround to link the plotfiles to a Project, is to open a Discussion and post the Viecon.plot URL in the discussion. However, there is an expiration time limit on the availability of the plotfile up on the Viecon.com server. If you wish, you can upload the source document (for a Viecon.plot, this is a MicroStation DGN file). This document can be linked to a Business or a Project.

Question 19:  Why is the fence option under the Contents pick list in the Viecon.plot MDL application grayed out?

Answer: If a fence is placed in the design file, then the fence picklist option is available. The fence boundary then defines the plotted area of the file when the fence option is selected.

Back to Index

Question 20:  What is the Fence tool used for in the Viecon.plot viewer applet if I can't modify anything?

Answer: If a fence is placed around an area in the Viecon.plot viewer applet, then the fence boundary will be used to define the printed area of the view. If no fence is defined, then the whole file is plotted.
