Question 1: How do I Convert Autoplant 97 1.02 Specs and Catalogs to Autoplant 97 1.1x Specs and Catalogs?

Answer: To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Make a backup of the specification(s) to be converted and store them in a separate directory. Do not place the back-up copies in a subdirectory underneath the original, as the conversion routine may create duplicates of the spec.
  2. Open the Spec Generator.
  3. Select Tools/DB Converter.
  4. In the Type of Data area of the dialog, specify whether you are converting a Catalog(s) or Specification(s).
  5. The DB Converter dialog is displayed. Press Select Source.
  6. A Select Directory dialog is displayed. Specify the directory which contains the files to be converted. To convert multiple specifications/catalog simultaneously, specify the parent directory. For example, if you have several specifications stored in separate subdirectories beneath an IMPERIAL parent directory, select IMPERIAL as the source. Spec Generator will detect all specification files beneath the parent and create a separate MDB file for each subdirectory it detects.
  7. After specifying the source directory, press OK to return to the DB Converter dialog.
  8. Enable the Import FoxPro DB field (a check mark should appear in this field). This option will import the files into the new database table format. If this option is disabled, Spec Generator will link to the existing tables without importing the records into the new format.
  9. Press Select Destination. The Select Directory dialog is displayed. Specify where you want the new files to be stored. Since the new specification/catalog files will be converted into a single MDB file, you can now store these files in the same directory. Using the example provided in Step 6, you should designate IMPERIAL as the Access Directory. All converted files will be stored in this directory.
  10. Press Convert to begin the conversion process.

Question 2: How do I Create a new 300LB specification with Specification Generator 6.0?

Answer: Follow the steps below to learn how to creat a new 300LB specification:

  1. Start the Specification Generator 6.0.
  2. Select File > Open… from the menu pulldown.
  3. When the Open dialog appears, select the Catalog option button and select OK.
  4. When the Open Catalog dialog appears, select the desired Catalog from the File list and select the Open button. The default Imperial Catalog is ..\Rebis\Catalogs\Imperial\carbstl.mdb.
  5. When the Catalog table appears, select File > New… from the menu pulldown.
  6. When the New dialog appears, select the Spec option button and select OK.
  7. When the Create Spec dialog appears, enter the desired File Name for the Specification and select the Open button. The default directory for Imperial Specifications is ..\Rebis\Specs\Imperial.

Note: You may want to enter CS300 for the Specification File Name.

  8. After selecting the Open button, a Create Table dialog will appear asking you to create a blank table. Select No.
  9. Change the Catalog Table to Flange.
  10. After changing to Catalog Table Flange, a Create Table dialog will appear asking you to create a blank table for Flanges. Select Yes.
  11. After selecting Yes, the Flange Catalog Table will be populated at the top and the blank Specification Table will appear at the bottom. Select the Filter button.
  12. When the Set Filter dialog appears, select the New Filter button.
  13. When the New Filter dialog appears, enter a name for the New Filter and select OK.

    Example: 300LB WNK Flanges

  14. Select RATING from the Field List window on the Set Filter dialog.
  15. Select the Add Where Filter button.
  16. When the Rating dialog appears, select 300LB and select the >> button. Select OK.
  17. Select STYPE from the Field List window on the Set Filter dialog.
  18. Select the Add Where Filter button.
  19. When the Stype dialog appears, select WNK and select the >> button. Select OK.
  20. Select the Apply Filter button on the Set Filter dialog.
  21. When the Save '300LB WNK Flange' dialog appears, select Yes to save changes to the modified filter.
  22. When the Catalog and Spec Tables reappear, you will notice that only 300LB Weldneck Flanges appear in the Catalog Table. The next step is to add these 300LB Weldneck
  23. Flanges to the specification. Select the records you wish to add to the specification and select the Copy To Spec button above the Catalog Table.

After selecting the Copy To Spec button, you will now notice that the Specification Table has been populated with the 300LB Weldneck Flanges you selected from the Catalog.

Note: Other Filters can be set in order to decrease the number of components seen within the Catalog Table. For Example, a Facing Filter of RF can be set along with the other 2 filters set to view only 300LB Raised Faced Weldneck Flanges.

  24. Repeat the above steps on the other Catalog Tables such as Elbow, Pipe, and Valves, to add the desired components to the specification.
