Bentley® AutoPLANT Plant Design - XM Edition includes a powerful suite of tools for designing, managing and operating small and large-scale industrial plant facilities.

Information included in this document:

Licensed Applications Included in this Install

The applications included in this suite are AutoCAD-based tools used for designing, managing and operating industrial plant facilities of all sizes or complexities. These products integrate with Bentley ProjectWise and Process and Instrumentation applications to provide seamless integration between the engineering teams, document management and related business systems.

Bentley® AutoPLANT Piping - XM Edition - Spec-driven 3D design of piping with advanced routing and editing features. Drawing production includes orthographics (plans, elevations and sections) using paperspace viewports and exporting 3D model data to produce finished isometric drawings. Automated Isometric Drawing, (ISOGEN) - Fully-featured automated isometric drawing production features are including in the Piping application. No additional licensing is required. In addition to an extensive catalog of piping components this application can also place 3d pipe supports, instruments, conduit, cable tray and HVAC components. Please refer to the AutoPLANT Help for more information.

Bentley® AutoPLANT Isometrics -XM Edition - Object-based drawing tools used to create isometric drawings without a 3D model using the same piping specs as the full 3d piping application.

Bentley® AutoPLANT Equipment - XM Edition - Fast layout and design of intelligent equipment vessels and nozzles. Full pipe connectivity, extensive equipment library and easily designed custom assemblies.

Bentley® AutoPLANT Raceways - XM Edition - Fully-featured 3D electrical layout and design application including conduit and cable tray specifications. Note: This application is a subset of the component modules available to the Piping application.

Bentley Data Manager - XM Edition - Comprehensive data management, reporting and configuration module for the Project-based Query and Reports engines allow users to leverage existing knowledge to produce deliverables regardless of the RDBMS selected for the project environment.

Bentley Vision - XM Edition- Provides unparalleled views of project data and documents as well as the relationship that exists between components, component data and the documents delivered.

Notice to Existing Users: This release is considered an upgrade from the 2004 Editions of the same products. The XM Edition is designed to be installed concurrently with older versions of AutoPLANT. Older versions may be left installed without impact by installing this product to a new directory.

How to Activate the Bentley PDW XM Edition Applications

Product activation is achieved by connecting to a SELECT Server, receiving verification that your SELECT Server Name and Activation Key are correct, and successfully posting Usage logs. Product activation is not the same as checking out a license. This document describes how to configure Bentley PDW XM Edition applications for activation. After initial configuration, Bentley PDW XM Edition applications automatically and transparently try to activate each time it runs, and runs unconstrained for a period of 30 days after its last successful activation. However, if activation is unsuccessful for a period of 30 days, the Bentley PDW XM Edition applications run in unauthorized mode with “demo mode” limitations until the product is successfully activated again.  The Piping and Isometric applications will limit the nominal sizes of components that can be placed while Equipment application will limit the number of components that can placed in a model.

Note: Bentley PDW V8 2004 Edition applications also work with SELECT Server XM Edition, but do not require the same activation process.

Activating a product using the Product Activation Wizard

The Product Activation Wizard is designed to step users through the product activation process. After a product is installed, you must obtain a license and then activate that license. Obtaining the license alone is not enough to complete the process. This wizard eliminates the confusion and makes it clear that obtaining a license and activating a product are two essential steps.

The Product Activation Wizard opens automatically (unless the "Activate product using Bentley License Tool" check box is turned off) at the end of the product installation process.

You can also access the Product Activation Wizard by selecting Start > All Programs > Bentley > Plant XM > Licensing > License Management Tool.

The first screen of the Product Activation Wizard offers 4 product activation options:

SELECT subscribers with a deployed (local) SELECT Server

SELECT subscribers activating against a hosted (Bentley) SELECT Server

NON-SELECT users

Evaluation Only - No license information

The wizard steps you through the activation process based on the options selected.

SELECT subscribers with a deployed (local) SELECT Server

If you are activating against a local SELECT Server, you must provide the proper Server Name and Activation Key. The Server Name and Activation Key, along with any proxy configuration information, can be obtained from your Site Administrator.

·        Enter the name of the server in the Server Name field.

·        Enter the site activation key in the Site Activation Key field.

·        If you are using HTTPS, enable the HTTPS (SSL) check box.

·        If you are using a Proxy server to connect to the hosted SELECT Server, click the Proxy button and fill in the Proxy Server information then click OK.

·        Click Test Connection to verify the connection to the SELECT Server.

·        Click Next. The Wizard Selections dialog box displays the information provided on the previous dialog boxes.

·        Review the information and click Finish to activate the product.

Important note for System Administrators: the Bentley PDW XM Edition applications require Bentley SELECT Server XM Edition and will not run with Bentley SELECT Server 2004 Edition (V8.5.2 and earlier). Bentley SELECT Server XM Edition can be obtained from the Downloads/MySELECT CD area of SELECTservices Online. Please note that you need to obtain a new license file for Bentley SELECT Server XM Edition. Contact the Bentley Sales Support Center that services your area for information on upgrading your current Bentley SELECT Server 2004 Edition license file.

SELECT subscribers activating against a hosted (Bentley) SELECT Server

If you are activating against a hosted (Bentley) SELECT Server, the Server Name is pre-populated but you must provide the proper Activation Key provided by the Bentley Sales Support Center.

NON-SELECT user

If you are not a Bentley SELECT subscriber and you are activating the Bentley PDW XM Edition applications, you are presented with three options:

I have a license file ready to import

I have an activation key

I do not have any license information

·        The product will run in evaluation mode.

·        Click Go To Bentley.com to request activation information.

Important note: If the workstation on which the Bentley PDW XM Edition applications will be running does not have regular network access for periodic activation (at least every 30 days), then consider utilizing a checked-out license. Checked-out licenses are considered to be in full-time use and the Bentley PDW XM Edition applications will not attempt to post usage for the duration of the license term. Please the Bentley PDW XM Edition application documentation for details on obtaining a checked out license.
