Product Installation

The Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition directory structure is designed to make administration of the product easy and efficient while minimizing the impact on existing workflows. It facilitates continuous product improvement and minimizes the possibility of overwriting user-created data.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of an application, it is highly recommended that you do not install this product over the previous version. Side-by-side installations of PIW 2004 Edition and XM Edition are supported but you must install the products in separate directories.

The installation program setup.exe will guide you through the installation and prompt you for information when required.

SELECT Online / MySELECT CD: When you order a custom CD from MySELECT CD, the product directory structure on the CD will appear as shown. To install from the CD, locate and run the setup.exe file and follow the online instructions.

         \
             |_08090201en
                     |_install
                         |_setup.exe - This file initiates the installation.

To install the applications included in AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition:

  • In Windows Explorer, select the drive that contains the product CD
  • Select the ...\08090201en\install directory on the product CD
  • Double-click Setup.exe to begin the installation
  • Follow the onscreen prompts

The installation program will ask you to identify where you want to install the application and which options you want to install.

Downloading Files for SELECT Services Online/Download: the download process gives you a choice to save the file to a specified location, or to begin the installation from the download area.

Bentley Licensing

To download the products, create a MySELECT CD or to complete the licensing process, you must have the appropriate roles assigned by your Site Administrator. If you have not been assigned these roles contact your Site Administrator from the Bentley website at SELECTservices Online at http://selectservices.bentley.com/. Select MySupport Account / Permissions. Clicking on the List SELECTservices Administration button will access the name of the Site Administrator to contact to add the appropriate permissions to your profile.

How to Activate Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition

Product activation is achieved by connecting to a SELECT Server, receiving verification that your SELECT Server Name and Activation Key are correct, and successfully posting Usage logs. Product activation is not the same as checking out a license. This document describes how to configure Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition for activation. After initial configuration, Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition automatically and transparently tries to activate each time it runs, and runs unconstrained for a period of 30 days after its last successful activation. However, if activation is unsuccessful for a period of 30 days, Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition runs in unauthorized mode with “demo mode” limitations until the product is successfully activated again.

Note: Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID 2004 Edition also works with SELECT Server XM Edition, but do not require the same activation process.

Activating a product using the Product Activation Wizard

The Product Activation Wizard is designed to step users through the product activation process. After a product is installed, you must obtain a license and then activate that license. Obtaining the license alone is not enough to complete the process. This wizard eliminates the confusion and makes it clear that obtaining a license and activating a product are two essential steps.

The Product Activation Wizard opens automatically (unless the "Activate product using Bentley License Tool" check box is turned off) at the end of the product installation process.

You can also access the Product Activation Wizard by selecting Start > All Programs > Bentley > Plant XM > Licensing > License Management Tool.

The first screen of the Product Activation Wizard offers 4 product activation options:

SELECT subscribers with a deployed (local) SELECT Server

SELECT subscribers activating against a hosted (Bentley) SELECT Server

NON-SELECT users

Evaluation Only - No license information

The wizard steps you through the activation process based on the options selected.

SELECT subscribers with a deployed (local) SELECT Server

If you are activating against a local SELECT Server, you must provide the proper Server Name and Activation Key. The Server Name and Activation Key, along with any proxy configuration information, can be obtained from your Site Administrator.

  • Enter the name of the server in the Server Name field.

  • Enter the site activation key in the Site Activation Key field.

  • If you are using HTTPS, enable the HTTPS (SSL) check box.

  • If you are using a Proxy server to connect to the hosted SELECT Server, click the Proxy button and fill in the Proxy Server information then click OK.

  • Click Test Connection to verify the connection to the SELECT Server.

  • Click Next. The Wizard Selections dialog box displays the information provided on the previous dialog boxes.

  • Review the information and click Finish to activate the product.

Important note for System Administrators: Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition requires Bentley SELECT Server XM Edition and will not run with Bentley SELECT Server 2004 Edition (V8.5.2 and earlier). Bentley SELECT Server XM Edition can be obtained from the Downloads/MySELECT CD area of SELECTservices Online. Please note that you need to obtain a new license file for Bentley SELECT Server XM Edition. Contact the Bentley Sales Support Center that services your area for information on upgrading your current Bentley SELECT Server 2004 Edition license file.

SELECT subscribers activating against a hosted (Bentley) SELECT Server

If you are activating against a hosted (Bentley) SELECT Server, the Server Name is pre-populated but you must provide the proper Activation Key provided by the Bentley Sales Support Center.

Please see the Bentley AutoPLANT P&ID XM Edition documentation for details on obtaining a checked out license.

...in order to login and generate reports.  If you select "new user", submit your email address, and receive the message "we were not able to locate you in our database"; you will need to contact us so that you can be added.  Otherwise, once you have logged into the "Online Support" page select "Error", followed by selecting the "Error Reports" tab.  This will bring up a page that allows selection of the database for each major workgroup, and product.  Select "Process and Instrumentation", and the product you are interested in (the default is "all products").  Next, press the radio button for the "Select a Time Frame" section.  The two list boxes allow selection of the time period (month/quarter and year) and format style.  Report type "Simple" represents a summary set of information, where "Complex" produces all publishable information related to the errors.  The error reports can be printed directly as displayed, or they can be pasted into a word processor or spreadsheet program to allow custom formatting or permit word searching.  Note that if the "View Open Items" radio button is selected, a cumulative open error report will be generated.  It is important to recognize that this report is based on the current commercial release.
